Kendal Mountain Festival, along with partners Rab®, are launching their second Mountain People Commissioning Grant for filmmakers.

The aim of the grant is to support grassroots adventure storytelling in a core area of British mountain culture. And it's an award worth winning, with a cash sum of £10,000 available.

Launched last year, the Mountain People Commissioning Grant aims to encourage filmmaking in the British mountains from filmmakers who may be finding it difficult to access funds for their ideas. The aim is to create new stories that will inspire people to enjoy and experience our mountain areas, with an eye on supporting and growing diversity and inclusion in the outdoors.

Each year the Mountain People Commissioning Grant invites applications to make a documentary of up to 30 minutes under a theme, which this year is 'In Your Element'. Applicants must be UK-based independent filmmakers and the winning film pitch will be announced at this year's Kendal Mountain Festival, with the premiere being at the following year's event. Support and project oversight is provided by the Kendal Mountain and Rab teams.

Last year's inaugural Mountain People Commissioning Grant was won by Jaha Browne and Olivia Martin McGuire for their film project 'We Are Nature', with the premiere happening over the Festival weekend 17-20 November.

"Once again, we are delighted to support filmmakers in pushing their creative and professional boundaries" says Jim Evans from Rab. "After last year's success we'll be particularly excited to hear innovative ideas based on our new theme, and we look forward to seeing the next trailblazing film based in our spectacular British landscape."

Kendal Mountain Festival dates are 17-20 November and tickets are available at www.kendalmountainfestival.com
