Silva's new Free range brings a new concept to head torches: modularity. Buy one of the Free models, then swop different lamp units and batteries around to create the perfect set-up for your activity; all are available as separate items, along with a host of accessories. 

The Free 1200 XS is the base model in the range, but it's no weakling. Designed with trekking, trail running and biking in mind, it packs in a 1,200 lumen lamp head, a cord-free headband with integrated electronics and a 2.0 Ah (14.4 Wh) battery. There are three brightness levels giving 2, 5 and 15 hour burn times at 20°C, delivered via Silva Intelligent Light which is a combination of long-reach spotlight and close-in flood light, plus there's a red safety light on the rear unit.

Silva has packed huge LED performance into those compact lamp heads; you can upgrade to 2,000 or even 3,000 lumen lamp units, with 2 Ah (14.4Wh) to 10 Ah (72 Wh) battery options available to match. Particular attention has been given to cooling, with the aluminium lamp head acting as a heat sink and cooling flanges enabling air flow even when stationary. 

Lamp units and batteries swop easily via a click system on the headband; there's a 130cm extension cable if you want to carry the battery in a pack or pocket, plus handlebar/helmet/GoPro mounts available as accessories. All units are water resistant, meeting IPX5 standard.
