In case you have plans for Paris 2024, Sam Laird has done some digging into what it takes to compete on the Olympic stage in Sport Climbing and attempted to answer some of the common questions: What proportion are second-generation climbers? How old were they when they first started climbing? What grades are these athletes pushing?
Short, light climbers excelling is no suprise. I've done a RM Chin-Up with 65kg added which is more than most Olympic climbers weigh.
What did surprise was the reference to the Rubik's Cube with some top climbers claiming a 30s solve. That's serious ability. I can do a sub 60s but only just. I think I've found a way to break my current E1 plateau.🤪
