This summer, Swedish company Silva is extending its Terra sustainability story into its range of compasses, introducing some beautifully made carbon trekking poles, and getting fast-and-light with their Strive Light Black running vests.

Silva Terra Expedition S compass (£66.99)

Silva's Terra initiative is a roadmap towards making its products more sustainable, product by product, and the new Terra Expedition S compass reflects this. Their mirror sighting compasses excel when you want accuracy and precision over long distances, and this model features map measuring in mm and inches, plus a wide selection of map scales: 1:24, 1:25, 1:40 and 1:50. In particular the Expedition S comes with a clinometer for measuring slope angle, useful for detecting avalanche risk. The lanyard, made of recycled material, has 1:25 and 1:50 scales for on-map planning. The case, grip ring and graduation ring are made from Revo recycled polypropylene plus natural hemp fibres, resulting in 90% less carbon emissions. Silva's new Terra Ranger SL and Terra Ranger S compasses are also made using the same Revo material.

Silva Trekking Poles Carbon (£119.99)

These sleek and well-designed trekking poles are made from ultra-strong lightweight carbon fibre, and adjustable up to 140cm using the aluminium 'flick-lock' system. The cork grips are comfortable in both warm and cold temperatures, while extended foam handles are useful crossing steep terrain or when you quickly want to change grip. Wrist straps are soft and easy to adjust. The poles fold down into three segments, so they're compact enough to fit your backpack using the storage bag supplied. Comes with interchangeable carbide tips, rubber 'paws' and snow baskets, so you can cope with any terrain.

Silva Strive Light Black 5 (£74.99) and 10 (£91.99)

Lightweight running vests developed in collaboration with the Silva team ultrarunners, these are made with 3D mesh fabrics throughout for maximum ventilation and breathability. There's a pocket in the main compartment if you're using a remote battery for your head torch, plus a Velcro hanger for hydration reservoirs, with hose/cable outlets on both shoulders.

A stretch mesh dual-entrance quick-access pocket on the lower back allows you to quickly stash away jacket, gloves etc. There are adjustable pole mounts on both sides, with the upper pole mount on the shoulder harness. There's a weatherproof zipped waist pocket with a key hook on one side, and a quick-access open mesh pocket on the other. For safety there's a back loop to clip a light on, plus reflective details front and back, and there's an integrated whistle. On the front there are two harness pockets with two 240ml soft flasks included, and twin vertically-adjustable chest straps – the top one with hose clip. Sizes are XS/S, M and L/XL.
